Grant Sexton always had a strong interest in personal development. In the 1960s he undertook a course associated with the Leadership Management International Group (LMIG), became a professional speaker and began delivering training sessions.

It was at that time he realised something that led to his life’s work.

“It became clear to me that a typical one hour training session really had no ongoing or lasting impact on people. So I decided to set up a learning process that I could use with participants and get changes that actually stuck,” Grant says.

He launched a new business in 1972, importing programs on personal development and sales training from LMIG. Some were sold as self-help programs, some were sold as workshops, and some were a combination of both.

“If we sold the programs and the workshops separately we got reasonably good results. But when we sold the two together, the results were five times stronger,” he says.

Grant developed a process which used resource material, workshops and one on one coaching, and his process evolved into a system which was adopted by LMIG internationally.

It now forms the basis of Leadership Management Australasia’s unique development process which delivers:

• Permanent behavioural change of participants
• Measurable results against pre-determined goals and objectives
• Identifiable ROI per participant

LMA began developing its own products for Australia and New Zealand in 2005, focusing on areas where it delivers exceptional results: leadership, management, sales, communication and personal development.

“We really do change people’s lives,” Grant says. “I still feel the little hairs on the back of my neck when I go to a graduation and bump into previous participants who say ‘if it wasn’t for you guys, my success would never have happened’.”

Such participants have included young entrepreneurs who are now amongst Australia’s wealthiest business people and sports stars who have undertaken LMA’s personal development courses and gone on to win world championships or dominate Australian sport.

Grant Sexton stepped down as CEO of LMA in April 2011, becoming Executive Chairman, and appointed Andrew Henderson to lead LMA’s continued growth and success.  “This has been an excellent succession for our organisation, and I’m pleased to now have the time to work on projects I’ve long wanted to tackle”, says Grant.

Appointed as CEO of Leadership Management Australasia in April 2011, Andrew Henderson has a clear vision and strategy for the group. Under his leadership, LMA is undergoing rapid growth and consolidation of its position as the thought leader and pre-eminent provider of leadership and management development solutions throughout Australia and New Zealand.

Andrew joined LMA in 2007 and believes his role as CEO is made easier by the organisation’s longevity and past performance. “LMA has been established 40 years and is a highly respected provider in the market place. Our reputation, the people we have on board, the product we provide and our unique development process position us as the leader in our field,” Andrew says.

To drive growth and profit, Andrew believes one of his key responsibilities is to create an environment which motivates and inspires individuals to contribute their part in executing the group strategy.

“Many businesses have a vision, state a purpose and have a strategy. Unfortunately, that’s where it ends. Far too little time and attention is given to executing the strategy and breathing life into the ideas.”

When he developed LMA’s dynamic strategy in 2011, he consulted with more than 70 stakeholders, including LMA Licensees, facilitators and coaches. Andrew is now spearheading a drive for greater innovation, rapid growth and high engagement by internal and external stakeholders, including LMA clients.

An innate ability to assemble and develop high performance teams has underpinned his success as a business owner and senior corporate executive. As a major stakeholder in four previous businesses, including a mortgage origination and broking start-up company which grew to employ more than 100 people in 3 states, Andrew has an unwavering belief in the potential of people to grow, develop and contribute.

Andrew believes LMA has an exciting future ahead of it. A future which is underpinned by a true win-win-win relationship.  “LMA’s success is intrinsically related to the success of participants in our courses. The better they do, the better our client organisations do and in turn, the better we do.”

Jenny Ward’s 20-year career as a facilitator and senior manager in training and development has been fuelled by her drive to help people achieve their full potential.

“At LMA, we have the opportunity of playing a small part in changing people’s lives in a really positive way. It’s a privilege to walk with them on their learning and development journeys while they’re with us,” she says.
Jenny began working with LMA as a part-time facilitator in 2006 when she commenced a Bachelor of Adult and Vocational Education. LMA’s training and development philosophy, the quality of its courses and the outcomes achieved by participants made an indelible impression on her.

“Every person in our courses is seen as an individual, and what they want to achieve from their course is meaningful. Each person’s success is important to us, and we actually get to see, hear and feel their transformation process.”

Jenny completed her degree, joined LMA full time and was appointed to her current role in 2009. Her drive for continuous improvement in product development and people development is reflected both in the quality and currency of LMA courses and in the continual upskilling of LMA’s own people.

“As a developer of people, we need to set the benchmark ourselves,” she says.

Jenny’s earlier positions included National Training Manager for a Queensland company, and Manager of a Queensland-based Registered Training Organisation. With responsibility for developing the learning, delivery and assessment systems and resources, she transitioned the RTO into delivering National Training Packages for five courses.

Jenny holds a Bachelor of Adult and Vocational Education with a double major in adult education and human resources. She also holds three Diplomas, in Training and Assessment, Business Management and HR.

The senior management group in our head office leads an Australasian team of more than 140 people. Each of our managers is inspired by improving and changing the lives of course participants and impacting the culture and bottom line of our client organisations.
