Baby Boomers have emerged from an era of command and control in heiracical management systems. Gen Y and X ers do not respond well to this and prefer managers/leaders who are able to manage in a collaberative way in a flat level management system. Baby boomers also do not appreciate the X and Y difference in work values. They are more inclined to leave a job they are not satisfied with rather than tolerate it for monetary or status gains. This is based on the theories of Mark McCrindle Australian Author of the book " The ABC of XYZ"

It is interesting to note that simialr issues have been identified in South Africa excluding the Baby Boomer survey. What has been identified that makes Baby Boomers a "challenge" in the work place?

Commercial sector leaders are not immune from a certain level of criticism either - but they are more attuned to the management of their own personal brand image.

Business myopia can mitigate against strategic thinking in many organisations, where the critical leadership skills can include creative accounting, obfuscation, and staying on message.

This sounds like a lot of Managers - they have done the course, and if they applied the skills on the job they could be so happy ... but they don't have the time.
Really, it's all in the KISS (Keep It So Simple)!

Yes there is considerable criticism of Government management presently. Two of the issues from within are that we talk about empowerment (of employees) like it is breakfast cereal yet miss the fundamental rule which is "giving away some power". Traditional management unfortunately is about gaining power! Secondly, remembering that the human brain narrows its focus under stress, we expect managers to be all thinking and all encompassing yet because our first thoughts are always to reduce management for efficiency we keep them in fear of not being part of the long journey.
