The Power of Self Motivation

By Paul J. Meyer – founder of Leadership Management International

Self-motivation compels people to greater levels of responsibility, productivity, and leadership because self-motivation generates a sense of purpose, enthusiasm and the ability to make things happen.

The power of self-motivation is capsulated in the formula:

Goals + Self Motivation = Success

With the dynamic combination of goals plus self motivation, people can accomplish almost any worthwhile goal.

Never confuse goal setting with daydreaming. Goal setting is purposeful planning for achievement and taking deliberate actions to transform goals into reality. Setting specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and tangible goals fuels self-motivation. Self-motivation is the power that raises you to the level of success you seek. Self-motivation focuses your attention and concentrates your energy on getting results. Self-motivation directs your activities toward your goals.

Since the earliest recorded history people have attempted to discover ways and methods of maximising their efforts. They all fall into three categories of motivation: Fear, Incentive, and Attitude. Human experience demonstrates how Fear motivation and Incentive motivation are short lived, quickly losing their power because they are applied externally.

The most effective and permanent method is attitude motivation – or self-motivation. When you are willing to perform certain actions because you believe they are right for you, you are self motivated. Increase your self-motivation – and your overall success – by working on a program of personal goals to turn your dreams and desires into reality. Empower others by helping them also learn the power of self-motivation.

Goal setting is the strongest human force for self-motivation!
